Why Does Allah Bless People Who Don’t Even Pray?

You wake up for Fajr. You make du‘ā with tears. You try to avoid what displeases Allah, repent when you fall and continue trusting Him even when life hurts.

Yet your situation does not change.

Then you look at someone who does not pray—and everything appears to be working for them. Their business is growing. They receive the very things for which you have been begging Allah.

Not Everything That Looks Like a Blessing Is a Blessing

We often measure Allah’s favour by what someone possesses. We see money, beauty, marriage, influence and comfort, and conclude that Allah must be pleased with that person.

But worldly abundance is not reliable evidence of divine approval.

Allah says:

Sometimes Allah gives because He loves. Sometimes He gives as a test. Sometimes He gives a person time to return. And sometimes abundance allows someone to move further into heedlessness.

The scholars describe this gradual drawing of a person through worldly favours while they continue in disobedience as istidrāj.

Allah says:

Do Not Envy What May Be Taking Someone Away From Allah

You see their possessions, but you cannot see their heart.

You see the photographs, but not the emptiness after the camera is switched off. You see the money, but not the anxiety preventing them from sleeping.

More importantly, you do not know what awaits any person before Allah.

This does not mean that every prosperous person who neglects prayer is experiencing istidrāj. We cannot judge individual hearts or destinies. Allah may be showing that person mercy, giving them time to repent or testing how they will use what they possess.

But you should never use another person’s temporary comfort as evidence that your obedience is useless.

Perhaps Your Struggle Is Protecting Your Heart

What if Allah knows that receiving everything immediately would destroy the sincerity that hardship produced within you?

Perhaps the unanswered du‘ā keeps bringing you back to the prayer mat. Perhaps the delay is teaching you dependence upon Allah. Perhaps the hardship you desperately want removed is preventing your heart from becoming arrogant, distracted or spiritually asleep.

You call it deprivation because you can only see what is missing. Allah may call it protection because He sees what that missing thing would have done to you.

The person who possesses the world but has forgotten Allah is not richer than the servant who has little but can still whisper “Yā Allah” with a living heart.

A true blessing is not merely something that makes life comfortable. A true blessing is anything that brings you closer to Allah without destroying your soul.

Your Worship Is Not a Transaction

Sometimes the deeper pain comes from an unspoken expectation: “I pray, so why has Allah not given me what I want?”

But ṣalāh is not a payment we make in exchange for worldly comfort. We worship Allah because He is our Lord—not because life has agreed to become easy.

Your prayer has already given you something greater than many of the things you requested: a place before Allah, five times every day, where your exhausted heart can return.

Do not abandon an eternal treasure because someone else appears to have received a temporary reward.

Allah Has Not Forgotten You

Your obedience is not disappearing. Every sajdah made while you were hurting is recorded. Every temptation you resisted for Allah is known. Every tear that fell during du‘ā was seen.

Allah says:

Therefore, when you see someone living without prayer yet apparently receiving everything, do not ask, “Why are they more blessed than me?”

Ask instead:

You may discover that the greatest blessing was never the money, marriage or opportunity you were waiting for.

The greatest blessing may be that, despite everything you have suffered, your forehead still knows the way back to the ground.
