I Feel Like Something Is Blocking My Life — What Should I Do Islamically?

When the same doors keep closing, Islam gives you a spiritual response that begins with Allah—not fear.

You keep trying. Yet every time you approach a breakthrough, something seems to pull you backwards. Is your life spiritually blocked?

You are trying.

You pray. You make duʿā. You pursue opportunities. Yet something strange keeps happening.

A marriage reaches the final stage and suddenly collapses. A business begins to prosper and inexplicably falls apart. Employment opportunities disappear when success seems certain. Money enters your hands but never seems to remain.

Eventually you begin asking: “Why does my life feel blocked?”

For a Muslim, this question should not automatically be dismissed.

Siḥr is real. The evil eye is real. Spiritual affliction is real.

The Qurʾān describes the siḥr confronted by Prophet Mūsā عليه السلام:

فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ
“And suddenly their ropes and staffs appeared to him, through their magic, as though they were moving.”QURʾĀN 20:66

Islam does not teach us to deny siḥr. It teaches us where to turn when we fear its effects.

When Repeated Problems Stop Feeling Ordinary

One setback happens to everyone.

But sometimes a person notices an unusual pattern: repeated disruption in the same area of life, disturbing dreams, sudden unexplained aversion between people, persistent heaviness around worship, unusual fear or other troubling changes.

These experiences deserve attention.

They do not individually prove siḥr, but neither should someone experiencing them simply be told, “It’s all in your head.”

Islam gives us a response: Ruqyah.

Don't Begin by Asking, “Who Did This?”

When people suspect siḥr, they often become obsessed with identifying who caused it.

Don't begin accusing relatives, neighbours, former partners or friends. Begin with Allah.

Recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, Āyat al-Kursī, al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq and al-Nās regularly over yourself.

And understand what you are asking Allah when you recite:

وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ
“And from the evil of those who blow upon knots.”QURʾĀN 113:4
This is not superstition. This is Qurʾān.

Strengthen Yourself Spiritually

Ruqyah should not only appear when fear appears.

Protect your five daily prayers. Maintain morning and evening adhkār. Increase your istighfār. Recite Qurʾān in your home and make sincere duʿā.

The goal is not to spend every day thinking about siḥr, jinn or whoever may dislike you. The goal is to become spiritually fortified.

And don't abandon practical solutions.

If your business is failing, examine the business while performing ruqyah. If your health has changed, seek appropriate medical assessment while maintaining your spiritual protection. If your marriage is deteriorating, address the relationship while seeking Allah's help.

Sometimes a problem is practical. Sometimes it may have a spiritual dimension. Sometimes both may exist together. A Muslim can address both.

When Should You Seek Spiritual Help?

If you have maintained self-ruqyah but continue experiencing persistent or unusual difficulties, you may seek guidance from someone trustworthy and knowledgeable in Qurʾānic ruqyah.

A trustworthy practitioner should bring you closer to Allah, not make you terrified of everyone around you.

Be cautious of anyone who immediately identifies supposed perpetrators, claims unrestricted knowledge of the unseen, demands strange acts or deliberately makes you dependent upon them.

If You Feel Blocked, Begin Tonight

Don't spend another night helplessly wondering whether someone has done something to you.

Make wuḍūʾ. Pray. Recite al-Fātiḥah. Recite Āyat al-Kursī. Recite al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq and al-Nās over yourself.

Ask Allah sincerely to remove every harm, heal what needs healing and open every door of goodness that has been closed.

Then continue tomorrow.

Ruqyah is not panic. It is worship, protection and reliance upon Allah.

And if there truly is a spiritual affliction behind what you are experiencing, you have already begun seeking your cure from the One whose words no siḥr can overpower.

Questions People Ask

Can siḥr or the evil eye affect a person's life?

Islam affirms siḥr and the evil eye as real forms of spiritual harm. Repeated setbacks alone do not prove a specific diagnosis, but legitimate ruqyah, Qurʾān, adhkār and prayer are appropriate means of spiritual protection.

What should I do if I feel spiritually blocked?

Begin self-ruqyah, protect the five prayers, maintain morning and evening adhkār, recite al-Fātiḥah, Āyat al-Kursī, al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq and al-Nās, make sincere duʿā, and address relevant practical causes as well.

Remember: your faith is not enough until you attain certainty in your actions.
